The Federação das Indústrias do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul (FIERGS) is the leading industrial federation in Southern Brazil. Similar to organizations like Germany’s BDI (Federation of German Industries) or the National Association of Manufacturers in the US, FIERGS serves as the official representative of the state’s industrial sector, working to drive economic growth, innovation, and competitiveness in both national and international markets.

With a network of 47,000 factories and 680,000 workers, FIERGS supports businesses through advocacy, training, and industry development programs. It operates alongside CIERGS, the Industrial Center of Rio Grande do Sul, which has over 2,000 corporate members. However, despite its economic influence, around 2018 FIERGS and its branches had a portal with outdated user experience and lacking in integration between platforms, making the digital presence a bottleneck for communication and operations.

The Challenge – A Website That No Longer Worked

FIERGS’ communication team was struggling with a cumbersome, outdated website that required constant technical support for even the smallest updates. Built on an inflexible UI/UX framework, the site lacked:

  • Responsiveness – with the new smartphone era right behind it, the portal experience didn’t translate to other screen sizes other than the notebook desktop.

  • Seamless Data Migration – Automated scripts ensured a smooth transition from the legacy system, preventing data loss and manual errors.
  • Integration with Internal Systems – Custom-built APIs connected the site with FIERGS’ internal databases, enabling real-time updates for training programs, courses, and industry events.
